FAQ

Frequently asked

Everything you might be wondering before you commission a piece. Still curious? Just reach out — I'm happy to help.

How much does a portrait cost?
Prices start at $70 for a wood round ornament (about 3.5–4 inches), and $75 for a painted pot or a canvas — and go up with size and the number of pets. You can see the full breakdown on my pricing page.
How long does it take?
Every piece is hand-painted to order, so timing varies a bit depending on the size, the number of pets, and how full the studio is at the moment. I'll always give you an estimated timeline when we chat about your commission, and keep you posted along the way.
How do I order?
Just fill out my commission form with a few details about your pet. I'll get back to you with next steps and a quote — no payment up front. Once we've settled the details, I get painting! You'll see a finished proof for your approval before anything ships.
What photo should I send?
A few clear, well-lit photos work best — ideally facing the camera so I can really see your pet's features. Feel free to send several. Just email them to doodlesnplants@gmail.com, and take a peek at my photo tips for examples of what helps most.
What if I don't have a perfect photo?
No worries at all — send what you've got and I'll help you pick the best one to work from. If something's missing, we'll figure it out together before I start.
Do you paint cats too? What about more than one pet?
Absolutely — cats, dogs, and beyond! I can fit up to three pets on most pieces, depending on the size. Have more than three, or a less-common critter? Just ask and we'll make it work.
Is it really hand-painted, or is it a print?
100% hand-painted by me, in acrylic — no prints, no AI. Every brushstroke is done by hand, which is what makes each piece truly one of a kind.
Will my piece look exactly like my photo?
I pour a lot of love into capturing your pet's likeness! Because everything is handmade and custom, though, slight variations in style, color, size, and design can occur — and the terracotta pots and wood rounds may have small natural imperfections. It's all part of what makes each piece one of a kind.
Will the paint hold up?
Yes — every piece is sealed with a clear, matte finish that's moisture- and smudge-proof, so it's made to last. Pots can live outdoors, too — just keep them out of reach of sprinklers, rain, and snow.
Can I choose the background color?
Definitely. You can pick a color you have in mind, go with a plain background, or leave it up to me — whatever you'd like. There's a spot for this right on the commission form.
Do you ship? How much does it cost?
I ship across the US. Shipping is calculated based on your location and the size of your order, and everything is packed with care. Local to Carlsbad, CA? Pickup is available too.
How do I pay?
Once we've finalized the details of your piece, I'll send you the invoice — payment is accepted through Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal. Nothing's due up front just to reach out; we'll sort out payment once your commission is confirmed.
What if I need changes, or want a refund?
Because every piece is custom-made just for you, I send a finished proof for your approval before shipping — so we get it just right together. I don't accept returns or cancellations, but please reach out if there's ever a problem with your order and I'll do my best to make it right.
Do you do memorial portraits?
Yes, and it's truly an honor to. A hand-painted portrait can be a gentle, lasting way to remember a pet who's passed. Just let me know when you reach out, and I'll take special care with your piece.
